Anti Afghan war Protests held in different cities of Germany
Several peace and anti-fascist groups called on people to participate in anti-war demonstrations in Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Stuttgart, Duisburg, Essen, Bonn, and other major German cities on Saturday.
The demonstrators called for the withdrawal of German troops from Afghanistan.
Germany currently has about 4,600 troops in Afghanistan as part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), and the German government is considering whether to prolong the mandate of its soldiers stationed in the war-torn country.
In the face of mounting opposition to the Afghan war, Germany hopes to begin withdrawing its troops by the end of this year and conclude the pullout by 2014.
So far, 46 German soldiers have lost their lives in the US-led war in Afghanistan.
