JNN Oct. 19th 2011. The US government says it is working with its allies to escalate pressure on Iran over allegation of Tehran’s involvement in a plot to assassinate the Saudi envoy to Washington, Press TV reports.

This comes as the UN Security Council is set to review the American accusation against the Islamic Republic.

“I think I’d characterize it as that dialogue both at the UN and bilaterally and multilaterally obviously continues,” US State Department spokesman Mark Toner said on Monday.

Last week, the US Justice Department accused Iran of involvement in a plot to assassinate Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Washington Adel Al-Jubeir with help from a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel.

Saudi Arabia seized on the US allegation, while both Washington and Riyadh have failed to provide any evidence to back up their claims.

Iran has categorically denied Washington’s latest accusation, saying the allegation is a ‘ludicrous’ claim based on the joint US-Israel posture against the Islamic Republic and meant to divert attention from the growing anti-Wall Street movement across the United States.

Iran has even been denied access to Mansour Arbabsiar, the used-car dealer Washington says is behind the alleged plot. Arbabsiar has a criminal record and is described as hopelessly disorganized by his family and friends.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi censured the anti-Iran publicity campaign, warning against the creation of a ‘fabricated’ crisis in the region.
