Supreme Leader of Iran orders establishment of High Council for Enforcement of Code of ethics for Cyberspace

JNN 08 Mar 2012 TEHRAN – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in a decree issued on Wednesday, ordered the establishment of the high council of cyberspace and appointed a number of natural and legal persons to the council.

The president, the Majlis speaker, the Judiciary chief, the director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, the minister of information and communications technology, the minister of culture and Islamic guidance, the minister of science, research, and technology, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, and the National Police chief are the legal persons on the council.

In the decree, the Leader cited the impact of the World Wide Web on people’s social and personal lives, the necessity for planning and coordination in order to protect against the ills of the internet, and the maximum exploitation of the net to provide people with useful and comprehensive services as the main reasons which have necessitated the establishment of the high council of cyberspace.

According to the decree, the high council of cyberspace is tasked with setting up the national center of cyberspace in order to ensure and oversee the implementation of the decisions taken by the council.
