Syrian army secures Kadam district near Damascus

JNN 22 Sept 2012  Damascus : The Syrian army has announced that the Kadam district in Damascus countryside has been secured and is now a safe location, Press reports.

The army said in a Wednesday statement that government forces have succeeded to clear the area of foreign-backed insurgents.

On Tuesday, Syrian troops clashed with a group of insurgents in the district of Hajar al-Aswad in Damascus and killed a number of militants.

Reports say the army also drove the insurgents out of al-Quneitra Street and the surrounding areas in the capital and inflicted heavy casualties on them.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Damascus blames ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists’ for the unrest while the opposition accuses the security forces of being behind the violence.

The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the armed insurgents are foreign nationals. Damascus also says that the insurgents are supported by Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar
