JNN 02 Oct 2012 Washington : The US has removed the dissident Iranian group Mujahideen-e Khalq Organisation (MKO) from its terror blacklist.A group with a history of bombings and murders, including the killing of US citizens, which also happens to oppose the current Iranian government, has paid its way off of a US blacklist.
Iran has strongly condemned the US decision to remove the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) from the State Department’s blacklist of terrorist organizations.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in a Saturday statement that Tehran strongly condemns Washington’s irresponsible move, which is against the international and legal commitments of the US.
The Islamic Republic holds the US government responsible for the terrorist acts carried out by the MKO in the past, present and the future, the statement added.
On Friday, Washington formally removed the MKO from its list of terror organizations one week after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sent the US Congress a classified communication about the move.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also stated that the United States has expressed its official support for the terrorist cell with this move, which also proves that Washington follows no logic in its actions.
Members of the MKO, who had murdered over 17,000 Iranians since the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, fled to Iraq in the 1980s, where they had the support of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and set up Camp Ashraf in the eastern province of Diyala near the Iranian border.
The group, which is listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community, has also carried out countless terrorist acts against Iraqi civilians.
The organisation had been designated a terror group by the US since 1997.
The MEK led a guerrilla campaign against the US-backed Shah of Iran in the 1970s and also opposed Iran’s clerical leaders who replaced the Shah.
Also known as the People’s Mujahideen Organisation of Iran,.
Originally one of the main participants of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, it is now in opposition to the government in Tehran, and with the help of Israeli special forces carries out “assassinations of nuclear scientists in Iran and obtains information on the Iranian nuclear program
There is also another issue. Washington might find this group highly useful. It seems that they have made use of it since 2007, in trying to destabilize the internal situation in Iran, and apparently with the cooperation of the Israeli secret service, the Mossad. They have used this group to conduct, it is said by some authors, assassinations of nuclear scientists in Iran and obtain information on the Iranian nuclear program. And they’ve carried out some acts of sabotage – they caused the explosion of a missile factory as well. There is some strategic interest in terms of current and ongoing, bad relationships, to say the least, to put it mildly, between the United States on one side and Iran on the other.
The MEK was given refuge in Iraq by former leader Saddam Hussein, but has fallen out of favour with Iraq’s new Shia-dominated leadership.
Members of the group have been based at a refugee camp in Iraq, from where the Baghdad government is taking steps to expel them.
Britain removed the group of its terror list in 2008, followed by the European Union in 2009.
Iran has repeatedly called on the Iraqi government to expel the MKO, but the US has been putting pressure on Baghdad to resist the calls.
US is delisting and collaborating with the terrorist Networks ,whether it is Good Taliban , or the Al Qaida Group first in Libya , and now in Syria, Or may be the Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan, who were earlier working for the CIA , under cover , and they have the support of the US Government now on the cover to get the best result , as they are falling miserably every where in the world , and have little resources even left to survive the falling US economy. So they have come out of bag and trying to rescue their falling Position in the world , before it is too late , and there is nothing left to rescue them.
