JNN 17 Aug 2013 Damascus : Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi has called on the Syrians forced to flee to neighboring countries due to the ongoing conflict in the Arab country to return home. As The Syrian Army says it has made more gains in clearing the country of foreign-backed militants, inflicting heavy losses on them.
Chairing a weekly cabinet meeting of Syrian ministers on Tuesday, Halqi said the government is ready to provide residential places for those who return to the country, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.
He said Syria is home to all Syrians and that the government is ready to embrace all the displaced citizens and provide decent residence to them.
Earlier this month, the UN Refugee Agency warned about the dire situation of the Syrian refugees abroad especially in Jordan, saying the Syrian exiles are facing recruitment as child soldiers, sexual violence, and exploitation for labor.
The report released by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on August 6 said a large number of child refugees are deprived of schooling and vulnerable to be recruited by armed groups that aim to take them back to fight in Syria.
The world body noted that the threat is not limited to children and adults are also prey to such recruitment, while all refugees, including youngsters, are being forced into labor.
The UNHCR also warned about domestic and sexual violence as a particular danger for refugee women and children.
The report said both organized crime networks and Syrian opposition groups operate in camps in order to pursue their financial and political objectives.
It further warned that lawlessness and high criminality in the camps are driving refugees back home.
Fresh gains by Syrian Armed Forces :
Syrian government forces launched attacks against the militants in the provinces of Damascus, Hama, Aleppo, Homs, Deir ez-Zor, Idlib and Latakia on Sunday and killed dozens of them, the official SANA news agency reported.
In addition, the Syrian armed forces captured many machine guns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, and hand-made rockets.
In the northern countryside of the Latakia province, Syrian forces have now recaptured more areas. Units of the armed forces have restored security to the Obin village and the Prophet Isaiah Mount after inflicting heavy losses on the militants there.
In the northwestern countryside of Aleppo, the army “destroyed a number of heavy and medium machineguns and killed many terrorists on Kafr hamra-al-Lairamoun road and in Dahret Abdrabeh,” an army source said. In Talet al-Shahid in al-Sheikh Saeed area, another 15 militants were killed.
Several militants were killed in other areas of Aleppo.
The government troops have recently conducted successful clean-up operations across the country, inflicting heavy losses on the militants.
The Syrian Army’s push against the militants rattled their sponsors.
Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi said on June 26 that Saudi Arabia is trembling with fear because of the Syrian Army’s recent gains against the militants.
In a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry in Jeddah on June 25, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal insisted that the militants in Syria must be armed with anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons.
Zoubi said that the Saudi weapons and money is the main reason behind bloodshed in Syria, adding that Faisal “is lost in the Syrian blood.”
Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions of others displaced in the violence., the Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
The militancy has also displaced millions of Syrians, with many of them living in neighboring countries, mainly in Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon.
