According to islamenfrance, the recent statistics that show the popularity of the name has worried regional authorities.
They say the number of Muslims in the region has increased by 10 percent and that from among 77000 registered births there, 7590 belong to Muslim families.
The Catalonia Statistics Institute officials have expressed worries over the report, saying that the rising number of Muslims is a threat to Spain and that it will weaken the Spanish identity.
Catalonia is an autonomous community of Spain and an officially recognized nationality. It comprises four provinces: Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, and Tarragona.
