JNN 05 Nov 2014 Riyadh : Masked Terrorists Martyred five Shia Man at the Ashura commemoration in the Shia Majority Eastern Province , Al Hasa of Saudi Arabia , police said Tuesday, in an unprecedented attack highlighting sectarian tensions in the Wahabi-dominated Saud Dynasty .
Twelve other Shia Men were wounded in the attack.
Three assailants fired machineguns and pistols at the crowd in the village of Al-Dalwa, police told the official SPA news agency.
“As a group of citizens was leaving a building … three masked men opened fire at them with machine guns and pistols,” the spokesman was cited as saying by state news agency SPA.
Footage posted online showed corpses lying in pools of blood after the attack in the oil-rich eastern region, where most of Saudi Arabia’s two million Shiites live.
A local rights activist said that the victims were mostly young men who were standing at the entrance of a Religious gathering place, known as a Huseiniya ( ImamBargah ) , where the commemorative ceremony was taking place.
“It seems the criminals were in a hurry and opened fire on youngsters at the entrance and fled,” Ali al-Bahrani, a local rights activist, told Reuters by telephone.
Bloodstains were seen on the carpet of the hall where the commemorations were being held.
Those martyred by the terrorist were namely Muhammad Al Musharaf, Ibn e Hussain Saleh Al Musharaf , Hadi Khalifa Mutawa , Muhammad Hussain Basrawi , Ibne Salman Bashir , Zuhair Habib Al Mutawa
Members of Saudi Arabia’s Shiite minority clash sporadically with police in their region. But Monday’s shooting was the first direct assault against them by the terrorists .
“It’s very surprising because it’s the first time,” said Nasima Al-Sada, a resident of Eastern Province. “We are shocked.”
Radical Wahabi groups consider Shiites heretics and have targeted them in deadly attacks elsewhere in the region, including bomb blasts in Baghdad on Sunday that left at least 18 dead.
The Ashura commemorations mark the Martyrdom of Imam Hussein a.s , the Grandson of the Prophet Mohammed PBUH , by the army of the Tyrant Ruler Yazid in 680 AD — an event that Bifurcates true Islam with the conspirators trying to tarnish the Image of Islam , since its Inception .
Saudi Government Claim Arrest of Perpetrators :
Saudi Government claims to have arrested the Perpetrators of the Shooting of Shia Men in the District Al Ahsa . Six suspects “linked to the terrorist crime” were detained in raids in Eastern Province and the region of Riyadh, the interior ministry said.
A Saudi Interior Ministry spokesman earlier said that six people had been arrested in connection with the attack in al-Dalwah village.
The Dubai-based al-Arabiya said security forces who had been hunting suspects in the al-Ahsa attack clashed with and killed “a wanted man” at a rest area in the al-Qassim province, north-west of the capital Riyadh.
A member of the kingdom’s emergency forces also died in the clashes, it said.
Saudi Arabia’s supreme council of Sunni clerics condemned Monday’s attack as “criminal”, urging Saudis to “close ranks in standing up against the treacherous criminals.”
“The enemies of our religion and our homeland aim to attack our unity and stability,” the council said in a statement.
Iran “condemned” the attack, according to a statement by foreign ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham published on the ISNA news agency.
“The Saudi government must ensure the security of religious ceremonies and identify and punish those responsible for this terrorist act,” she said.
Protests and clashes with the security forces have wracked Shiite areas of Eastern Province where the minority community complains of marginalization.
Tensions escalated last month after a Saudi court handed down a death sentence against leading Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr, a driving force behind the demonstrations.
Protests erupted in the region in February 2011 after an outbreak of violence between Shiite pilgrims and religious police in the Muslim holy city of Medina.
They escalated after the Saudi Kingdom’s intervention in neighboring Bahrain later that year to support an Allied Wahabi monarchy against an uprising led by the Shiite majority.
Hundreds were arrested in a subsequent crackdown, according to Amnesty International.
Nimr was shot and wounded during his arrest in July 2012, fanning tensions in the region.
After Nimr’s death sentence for sedition on October 15, his family accused the court of ignoring his “peaceful and non-violent approach,” saying the case had caused “social and political discontent”.
Three days later, gunmen fired on a security patrol in the east, setting fire to an oil pipeline.
Shortly after Nimr’s sentencing, a Saudi court sentenced two more people to death for participating in Shiite protests, saying it issued the verdicts “as a deterrent to others”.
A third person was jailed for 12 years.
In June, two people were sentenced to death for forming a “terrorist group” and other crimes linked to the Shiite protests.
BIRTH PLACE OF WAHABISM :
Saudi Arabia , the Birth Place of the Radical Wahabi Sect ,which sees all other sects as Infidels and Propogates Killing Infidels , While Shi’ism has been regularly decried as heretical in sermons and religious broadcasts.
Since capturing the world’s attention this year with a flash assault on Iraq, ultra hardline Wahabi Terrorists of Islamic State have persecuted religious minorities including Shi’ites, who they believe are infidels who deserve to be killed.
Shi’ites say they face discrimination in seeking educational opportunities or government employment in the Wahabi Ruled state and that they are referred to disparagingly in text books and by some officials and state-funded clerics.
They also complain of curbs on setting up places of worship and marking Shi’ite holidays, and say Qatif and al-Ahsa which are Shia Majority areas and at the same time richest areas in the Oil Reserves , receive less state funding than other Provinces of Saudi Arabia .
The Saudi government denies allegations of discrimination.
