JNN 23 Nov 2010 Lucknow : Chairman of Shia Central Board of Waqf (SCBW), Kamaluddin Akbar, along with a member of the board, resigned on Monday. Officials of the board confirmed that they have received the resignation letters.
As per reports, Akbar, who was perturbed over mudslinging by some members of the board, submitted his papers through courier to the state government. Another member former Principal Secretary (Law) Mazhar Abbas Abedi too has resigned from his post. After having received the resignation, officials in the state government called up Akbar to confirm his decision. It is reported that he admitted that he has resigned from his post. However, the state government is yet to take a final decision over his resignation. “We have received the resignation but it has not been accepted. Decision in this regard will be taken by state government,” said Administrative Officer of the board, Ghulam Sayyedain.
The SCBW since its reconstitution has been in a state of turmoil. Two members of the board, Kunwar Iqbal Haider and Imran Rizvi launched scathing attack on the newly appointed chairman Akbar accusing him of misuse of waqf land. Several demonstrations were held in the city over the construction of a nursing home on a waqf land belonging to Ghuframaab Imambara in Chowk, Lucknow. Akbar, who is reported to be related to prominent Shia cleric and Imam-e-Juma, Maulana Kalbe Jawwad failed to pacify the members who were up in arms against him.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Akbar will be meeting senior Indian government cabinet minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui over the fate of his resignation.
